Wooden floor repairs in Cobham
Most wooden floors that look tired or broken can be saved. Cracked boards, loose parquet blocks, water stains, deep gouges and creaks can almost always be repaired in place, keeping the character and value of the original timber. Our Cobham team has repaired floors in Victorian terraces, new-build flats, schools and churches, so we have seen most problems before.
Many repairs are carried out just before a full restoration. Once the floor is sound, floor sanding takes everything back to fresh timber so new and old wood finish as one surface. Where a full sand is not needed, a re-oil can blend a small repair into the surrounding finish.
Specialist repairs for every type of wooden floor
Different floors fail in different ways, so we offer three dedicated repair services:
Parquet floor repairs - loose, hollow or missing blocks re-bonded or replaced, and herringbone or chevron patterns rebuilt.
Floorboards repairs - split, rotten or badly patched boards replaced with matched reclaimed pine, and loose boards secured to the joists.
Engineered & solid wood repairs - plank replacement, re-bonding lifted boards and dealing with movement or water damage.
How we match new timber to old
Good repairs should be invisible once the floor is finished. Wherever we can, we use reclaimed timber of the same species and size, because new wood rarely matches the colour of floors that have aged for decades. If new wood has to be used, we tone it in with stains and oils so the repair blends with the rest of the room.
Common problems we fix
Creaking floors and boards that move underfoot
Loose parquet blocks and failed adhesive
Water damage, staining and cupped boards
Old service cut-outs, mismatched patches and filled holes
Deep scratches, burns and impact damage
Finding the cause, not just the symptom
Before we fix anything, we work out why the floor failed. Lifting blocks often point to damp or failed adhesive, cupped boards to a leak or poor ventilation, and creaks to loose fixings or tired joists. We check moisture levels with a meter, look at the subfloor and explain what we find in plain English. If something needs a plumber or builder first, we will tell you honestly rather than cover it up.
Repair, then restore
A repaired floor can be left as it is, blended locally or fully refinished. Some customers add gap filling to cut draughts, or a stain to give the room a new look. Because timber moves through the year, gap filling is not covered by our service guarantee - we always explain why before work starts. Everything else comes with our three-month guarantee on restoration work.

Common questions
Will the new boards match the old ones?
In most cases. We use reclaimed timber of the same species and size wherever possible and tone it in during finishing.
Do I need to sand the whole floor after a repair?
Not always. Small repairs can sometimes be blended locally, but a full sand gives the most even result, especially on older floors.
Is it possible to stop floorboards creaking?
Yes. Creaks are usually caused by loose boards or worn fixings, which we secure without damaging the floor.
How quickly can repairs be done?
Most repairs take a day or less. Larger parquet or water damage repairs may take two to three days, plus finishing.

Questions about Wood Floor Repairs
Can I stay at home during the work?
No. We work room by room, and nearly all our clients stay at home throughout. Our water-based lacquers and low-VOC oils have very little odour, and we plan the order of rooms around you.
Can I get a price without a visit?
Often, yes. Photos of the floor plus rough measurements let us give a guide price within a working day. We confirm it with a short visit before work starts, so the final quote is fixed.
What guarantee comes with the work?
Our floor restoration comes with a 3-month service guarantee. If something is not right with our workmanship in that time, we come back and put it right. Gap filling is excluded, because wooden floors move with the seasons — see our service guarantee for the full terms.
Are you insured?
Yes, we carry £5m public liability insurance. Certificates are available on request, which facilities managers and landlords often need before work starts.
Do I need to empty the room?
Empty the room where possible and take down curtains that reach the floor. If you need help with heavy pieces, let us know when booking. Our preparation checklist has more tips.
What does floor sanding cost per square metre?
Prices depend on the floor area, condition, repairs needed and the finish you choose. Our price list shows typical starting prices, and the free survey gives you a fixed written quote.
